Fixing a $150 faucet with a $20 part December 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Our Moen kitchen faucet gradually got to working more and more stickily, until one of us broke the plastic "pivot nut" collar thingie just trying to push the handle up and down. With some trepidation I ordered this part and a new pivot nut. Both arrived quickly and I was able to install them, even though I'd never done a repair like this before. One issue others have mentioned was the perhaps fragility of the plastic device provided with this cartridge to unscrew the old one and screw in this one. Bearing that in mind I used standard needle nose pliers to break loose the retainer ring for the old cartridge, only using the plastic tool to unscrew it after that. I don't even know whether that was necessary, but in any case it worked. And now the $150 faucet works like new after me spending only an hour or so on fixing it. Oh, and ordering it through Amazon was easy and quick, and it arrived quickly as well. I didn't need the expensive cartridge pulling tool Amazon lists, nor did I have to replace the clip you must remove before unscrewing the cartridge--the old clip worked just fine. I did need standard small needlenose pliers to remove it, but everyone should have this tool in their junk drawer.
So let me encourage readers of this review. Those faucets are darned expensive, and now every time I use our kitchen faucet I get a little thrill from knowing how much $$$ I saved with this surprisingly simple repair. So go for it.
BTW I like supporting local businesses, but I also want to support the reader reviews Amazon hosts. I've found them invaluable, and hope mine can help others as they've helped me.
great buy December 21, 2008 This replacement valve is made by Moen and it's half the price. Super great deal. I purchased 2 valves so I could get the free shipping!!

Easiest way to fix leaks, too bad they haven't tagged it some way to avoid having to install it twice if you get hot and cold reversed.
Moen Faucet Cartridge May 4, 2008 This is a Moen made original factory part (1225 Single Handle Faucet replacement cartridge). I compared cost with many other sources but Amazon beat the best price by about half. The part was shipped very promptly and it fit like a glove. Amazon is awesome for wholesale parts.
