Amazon.com Product Description The Vector 400-watt inverter converts a vehicle battery's 12-volt DC power to 110-volt AC household power. Use it to power cell phones, laptops, 13-inch TVs, camcorders, and more while you're on the road. It conveniently plugs into your vehicle's cigarette lighter and features state-of-the-art circuitry to handle temporary high surge loads. It gradually and safely ramps up the output voltage to start difficult motorized loads and protects sensitive appliance circuits, and its special "Turbo Cooling" feature keeps its own components cooler. This inverter's low power consumption ensures longer battery life: its 90-percent-efficient, solid-state design means you get the most from your vehicle battery. The inverter will restart automatically if it shuts down due to over-voltage, under-voltage, overload, or over-temperature. Plus, it offers completely silent operation and comes with its own case. This unit is ETL listed.

Defective January 7, 2009 The unit smelled burned when it arrived and when I advised Amazon of it's condition before I used it they ask if I would try it. It operated a 60 Watt TV for about 5 minutes before the low voltage indicator beeped. It had drawn down my charged Group 27 battery. Amazon sent me postage for a return with no problem. I can't say much for the Vector product but Amazon's return policy is great. Even though I have not been advised of a re-imbursement I expect one soon. It's only been about a week since I shipped the inverter back. Jerry.

Best Buy of the year for me. October 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered this inverter with little knowledge of what I was looking for and hoped for the best. It was perfect! I recently bought a conversion van and wanted to put a small T.V. and DVD player in for long trips and to keep my daughter occupied. This works perfect! It hasn't overheated or drained my battery. It powered both the T.V. and the dvd player without a hitch. I would highly reccomend this prodect and the price was fantastic! I thought I would have to spend at least 75.00 to get the job done.
Powereful, Convenient and Easy to Use March 15, 2008 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I bought the Vector MAXX 400 watt inverter because it was about the highest wattage inverter available that still plugged into the cigarette lighter and I am not displeased. The unit comes with both a cigarette lighter cord and alligator clips which can be attached directly to the battery. These are color coded and connected to the unit by the user. I just leave the cigarette lighter cord attached as it still fits in the convenient hard-shell carrying case in that configuration. The unit has audio alarm for low power, a circuit breaker, and a fan which is not too loud.
I found it easy to use - just hook up the cables, plug it in and run my stuff. I mostly use this to power a laptop running navigation software or recharge a cell phone and it works great. (I probably do not need this much power for these tasks but you never know when you will need the extra juice for other usage.) It powered the laptop on a 12 hour drive from Chicago to D.C. with no problems. I do use a surge suppressor for the laptop but that is just me and to the best of my knowledge, the Vector MAXX has never triggered the surge suppressor.
My only (mild) complaint is that the cords are a little short. Overall, I find it easy to use and pretty handy to have around. I recommend it.
